Hi Guys, My first post . I have been looking into these hoods recently and I think the replacement glass screen which just zips into the hood to replace the plastic screen should be unzipped before lowering the hood, if not damage can be caused to the screen itself and can be costly. The total replacement hood has the screen as an integral part and it drops into the rear parcel shelf as the hood is lowered. There are obviously differences in the way the two are designed and the replacement screen doees come with a warning that it should be unzipped when lowering the hood. Only problem I have is that Ii can't find one in Red.

Nothing new. Didn't speak to Scotty. Heavy engaged on the job again (still !!). Keep patient, cause Tony and I will see him in one month down in the Alps in any way. @chris, yes we are with you on the unzip requirements due to *screen only* replacement. The beige hood should be the full replacement though.

This could be the problem then because if I bought the whole hood I would not expect it to have the zip out section. Do you know who supplied the hood, Mike Satur, Moss, MGF Centre? If a replacement hood was expected without a zip section then it may have been a mistake on the distributors part.

A single supplier provides all these suppliers with the glass-window equipped hoods. Chris, I agree, this *could* be a distribution problem?

So are we looking at two designs from the same supplier Dieter? The early Mk1 - that Mike N has - and a later version that Scotty has that tends not to fold quite as well, but looks rather better? Are we also saying that the Mk2 hood will fold rather better as it 'beds in'?

No idea. Could be one supplier for all three designs ? This is anway 4me. Lokking back, I think. MK1 like Mike N has ... costly design with lots of work steps to manufacture *whyever* MK2 may be like Scotty and the above www.carhood.com. (they look the same. .. less costly, but errr, doesn't fold perfect, or needs a more sensitive installation. MK3 X-Power Shop... (btw the pic disappeared) .. lowest works costs IMO, but how does it fold ?? Between all MK1 and/or MK2 will be the Window replacement option. Never seen, but I remember people saying *window must be zipped* Apology, I wanted to say 'bed's in better ' instead of 'folds better'. www.mg-xpower.com/mgshop/images/products/1/shop/260A.jpgNow who's behind that shop ?

That's an easy question to answer: MG Sport and Racing - i.e. part of MG Rover Group Perhaps this is a prelude to an official glass-window softtop for the TF?

Indeed, may be reasonable. Several tests here in DE talk about *old fashioned* plastic window as disadvantage for sales of the TF. I think nobody likes to bet 'against' a prediction: Will be introduced with MY 2005 MGTF facelift in next September ?? SARRDWBKN 5D640000 (app.) ?? Me volunteers as 'Beta-Tester' !!!! (FOC, of course) ;D

A face-lifted MY2005? I can't see that the car needs much in the way of an exterior restyle - but the interior could probably do with some 'work'. Perhaps we'll see the round heater vents we've seen introduced on the rest of the MGR range? Glass rear screen for the softtop maybe - and perhaps even remote opening boot lid? Engine wise, I wonder whether we'll see a TFX with a 220bhp 2.0 litre K-series? Ah, idle speculation. You can't beat it!

Update regarding the suspect beige hood. Had a discussion with Scotty yesterday. He has picked up the hood *mint in box* already in last November at Mike's . So the logistics trouble with OEM supplier may be right. The rear fabric is 'definately' to short. However, Scotty found the OEM address. I'm sure Mike doesn't know about this direct contact Psssttt !!!!! He took contact in last month and explained the *to short rear fabric* problem. He said, he will get a new direct from OEM. Anyway, I don't like to break into every sales secrets of aftermarket suppliers Scotty is one .... and will sell in DE now direct from the OEM. (This doesn't mean I will get one ;D. I can wait ... for the latest design ) Conclusion, I assume there will be some more of such failure hoods in the UK. This may explain the confusion at the BBS and other Forums with unzip or not unzipping the rear glass window.
