Pipe is replaced Andy - that's the good news. On taking things a part, I found where the coolant leak was eminating from: it was oozing from around the engine outlet pipe - where the rubber hose is jubilee cliped. I reckoned that this was probably because of the extra strain placed on the pipe due to it being shorted to cure the original leak. In any case I thought it best replaced. Access was predictably tight - but then it would not be an MGF otherwise would it? It all went pretty smoothly - except removing/replacing the hose to the heater was a real bugger to do. Got there eventually. Re-filled the system with blue ethelyene glycol-based OAT coolant (hey, not orange!!! It's BLUE!!!), ran the engine and.... arrrrgggghhhhh!!!! It still leaks from the same place as it did before changing the hoses!!!! Not sure why: perhaps because it is a second-hand hose? Managed to reposition the jubilee clip a little, and I thought I'd cracked it - but a good long drive later (to rescue Gen-nam - the Metro stopped for no apparent reason - dunno what's going on there either), and it was apparent that the pipe is very slowly oozing coolant. Might try an additional jubilee clip, but if that fails, then I'll have to replace the hose with a new item. So the saga continues. I plan to drive the F up to Silverstone tomorrow - so we'll see how it goes. I'll also chat with Roy to sound out his thoughts.

ran the engine and.... arrrrgggghhhhh!!!! It still leaks from the same place as it did before changing the hoses!!!! Oh no! That's odd. I would have put the oozing down to the extra strain from shortening as you did. You would think that even a second hand hose should tighten up enough to be watertight. Is it any better with the double jubilee clips?

Forgot to say thanks Dave for the antifreeze! ;D
I haven't tried the double jubilee clips yet - I'll give that a go tonight and pop some spare antifreeze in the boot just in case!

Andy, I think that the oozing has stopped - but when I took the car out for a test run Monday evening, the fuel pipe disconnected itself!!! Absolutely nothing to do with the work on the cooling system: incredible coincidence!
Anyway, stress tested the system at Silverstone on Tuesday - obviously cleared some more air from the system (I may need to perform an extra bleed procedure soon just to be sure), but I think things will settle down now.
I'll keep a close eye on the coolant levels.
Fancy coming over and aiding with a front ARB swap? I had wanted to do this ahead of Silverstone - but I'll get to test it at Bedford instead now if I get it fitted in time ;D

Sounds cool - when did you have in mind? For the record: Good FridayReplaced a blown flexi pipe on Jaime's F - cat nuts were surprisingly easy to remove (phew!) Also, had a look at her SP exhaust, the muppets who fitted it didn't use the SP hanging bracket (with the height adjustment slots in), instead they re-used the bracket from her old OE system (with bolt holes, not slots!) No wonder her rear tailpipes were out of alignment!! Not having an SP bracket to hand, i only had one option - i forced the 'hook' part of the bracket between the underside of the rubber bush and the metal clamp, thereby dropping it 10mm or so. Resulted in a much better aligned system, but ultimately she needs to replace the bracket. Lastly, Gary and i fitted a Phoenix heat shield finisher too. A good morning's work. Easter MondayFitted a Trophy throttle body to Kieron's F, also adjusted the tension in the throttle cable - he's a happy bunny, lightning quick throttle response! Had some grief getting engine access though, he has speakers so the front three bolts were always going to be an issue, but i had my ratchet spanners with me and so i thought i was prepared. The middle one though had been overtightenend by some dealership monkey and in the end we had to remove the T-Bar and speaker box, then use pliers to lift the bolt enough to get it started on the thread. Kieron, like me, now has three bolts missing in his inspection panel... Finally, we also installed some electric door mirrors - B+G supplied the parts and i have to say i'm impressed with the gear they sent through. The instructions could have been a bit better, but the parts themselves were first rate. Fitting was trickier than we thought it would be, in the end we had to drop the glovebox, open the fuse panel, remove the steering wheel airbag, steering wheel and collumn cowl in addition to the door cards and instrument binnacle cowl, but other than this it all went pretty well.

I had a weekend off from car stuff I ended up pulling down the remainder of the garden fence and then errecting the new one. Plus a little bit of furniture making Good stuff with your MG efforts Andy! ;D Very interested to hear your comments regarding the electric mirrors (especially after Dieter's recent purchase of the Opel derived joystick and switch). Worth doing? Can't decide on it for my car: I know it doesn't weigh much, but I'm starting to wonder in what direction to focus my MG in...? Track day star or fast road cruise?

Interestingly I'm going to be fitting elec mirrors because of using the car for trackdays. Swopping each session with Jennie results in constant shouting at each other to move the nearside mirror

The eleccy mirrors are a great idea if more than one person uses the car, you're right Neil. Plus, I use Mike Satur's 'Hoodmate', which I find jogs the mirrors every time I remove it... How much are the kits? How difficult would the B&G kit be to replicate?

Not sure about the cost as I already have the mirrors and Victoria is busy assembling the rest of the parts. You're right about the hoodmate. A good bonus of the eleccy mirrors is that the surround is fixed and so they don't get knocked all the time. Unfortunately the painted backs cannot be swopped as they are slightly different.

Unfortunately the painted backs cannot be swopped as they are slightly different. Very interesting - this would probably explain why Kieron's chromed mirror covers wouldn't stay fitted to the new mirrors. This also messes me right up, as i would have to swap the mirror backs over as they would never match the car otherwise.

I wasn't best pleased either because I had intended to change them over

yeah, I can definitely confirm that the two mirror designs are completely different (I had plenty of time to study the electric ones, as these are the same design as was found on Yimmy's old Rover 214Si)
Neil, where are you planning to mount the joystick on your car?

Some hysterical set pieces in it: a favourite was "There's been an accident..." spoof of Sixth Sense I have a feeling that Shaun of the Dead will be in a very similar vein: got to go and see that soon! ;D
