No news yet - I've actually been working for a couple of days and so not had chance to chase the garage. They were awaiting the insurance company's engineer to inspect the car as the labour cost was high - just over £700. As soon as the engineer sanctions the repair then I'll get a better chance of knowing how long it will take, but the initial thought from Priests was two weeks from the go-ahead :-(
Andy,
The estimate only details labour costs. Parts are listed, but prices are currently just detailed as 'as at time of repair'.

£700.00 Hmmm, 8 hours a day... £700.00 divided by 8 = £87.50 per hour! or Assume the work takes either a day and a half... £700.00 divided by 12 = £58.33 per hour or Assume the work takes 2 technicians (or 2 days)... £700.00 divided by 2 = £350.00, divided by 8 hours = £43.75 per hour This seems exorbitant to me, £43.75 p.h. is reasonable i suppose, but 2 days to undo 11 screws, 22 - 35 bolts and put back is taking the mickey IMO. If it needs jigging, or maybe some bodywork (rather than just replace bent parts) then i suppose it's closer to the mark, but to be honest it doesn't look that bad at all, mostly cosmetic stuff. Just as well it's an insurance job - for this money i'd expect an A1 Rolls Royce of a job Dave.

I suspect that Priests labour rates are more like £60 per hour - I'm guessing, but remember that this is leafy Bucks ;-)
Also, whether the labour includes the bodyshop's labour for spraying up new parts, I don't know.
Anyway, the engineer from Direct Line has been and inspected the car and has authorised the repair. It may be ready before the end of next week :-)

Priests finished the car yesterday (24th March) and I picked it up at around 6pm. So that's just over two weeks from accident to repair - not too shabby. Because I wasn't paying anything, the paperwork hadn't been completed when I picked the car up. Consequently, I still don't know exactly how much work was done or what parts were replaced. I've asked for a copy of the paperwork, so hopefully I'll know soon. The bumper and bonnet are obviously new. The plate running between the headlights and above the radiator that carries the bonnet catch is also new. Headlights, unfortunately, were undamaged! However, the car looks great. The upside that I wasn't expecting is what looks like a brand new splitter. I don't think the old one was damaged in the incident, but it most certainly had become chipped over the years. Of course, the other obvious upside is the complete absence of stone chips. How long that will last is another matter! So, the Fiat Punto goes back this afternoon ;D
