Bloody Hell..... No amount of defensive parking can ever completely remove the X-factor of a woman in a Freelander reversing. This is just inexcusable for anyone to be so careless. It's happened to me before but the rear end isn't such a good crumple zone. Having seen the work Techspeed did for Kingsleys car, and the speed at which they turned it round, I sure they'll be able to the same for another valued customer......

The lady in the Freelander was with Direct Line and I have to say it all worked very slickly. She admitted liability to them over the phone and they arranged for a low loader to collect the car immediately. The car should arrive at Priests of Chesham this morning for an estimate. I'm happy to have Priests do this - they are a good main dealer. Direct Line have also arranged for me to receive a hire car, which should arrive tomorrow morning. The pics were from my T610 mobile and transferred via Bluetooth to my PC and uploaded to the MGoT website's image directory

Sorry about your car Dave Personnally I don't think you should be allowed to leave a tow bar on when not towing.

Sorry about your car Dave Personnally I don't think you should be allowed to leave a tow bar on when not towing. It is ironic to note that the only damage my car has ever had before this was also due to a tow bar on the back of a large heavy Volvo. There was similar damage to bumper, but it didn't crumple the bonnet that time. I'd imagine that a tow bar must focus the impact on one point and cause more damage than if it was bumper to bumper. From the other parties perspective though it is a good protection device - neither Volvo or Freelander received a scratch as the tow bar fended off my car completely!

FLIPPIN' 'ECK!!!!! Until I saw the crumpled bonnet, I didn't think that the damage was 'that bad'... How on earth did she manage to ram you hard enough to do that much damage Dave? Any damage to the inner wings? Good to hear that the insurance aspect appears covered, and that your local dealership has got your car in preparation for repairs. But, jeepers, not what you need Hopefully you'll get the car back soon! (Chance for Silverstone?)

Any damage to the inner wings? Exactly my thoughts - this much damage from a standing start over approximately 1 metre! Hence the title of this thread. I couldn't see any problem with the side wings. I'm also concerned about what's happened behind the front bumper. Hopefully you'll get the car back soon! (Chance for Silverstone?) Goodness, I hope so! However, who knows what nasty surprises are in store from MGR parts.

I passed a crash yesterday between a Pug 206 and a Rover 25.
The Pug had rear ended the Rover and as a result he rear end of the Rover now has a dent exactly the same as the front of the Pug.
If you saw the Rover on it's own you would now it was a 206 that hit it yet the 206 had no (structural) damage whatsoever! Very minor paint damage bit no bent wings etc. Rover took the full force of the impact

That's astonishing Bob...! In my experience, Pugs are made out of steel that has all the structural strength of Ukranian baking foil - so how the 206 faired as well as it did in terms of maintaining its shape amazes me! At least the owner of the 25 is unlikely to have suffered too much from whiplash...
Dave - fingers crossed that you wont suffer any more nasty surprises!

Oh no! Just spotted this thread Dave - sympathies mate First glance parts list: Bumper (obviously!) Bonnet (could possibly be repaired, but is cheaper to replace) Bumper carrier/armature (likely to be damaged) Bonnet slam panel and catch - note if this is distorted too much it can damage the radiator. Costs (estimate - bear in mind i'm in construction! ) Bumper - say £250 Bonnet - say £150 Bumper carrier / armature - say £75 Slam panel - say £30 Bonnet catch - say £30 Paint - say £50 Labour - say 1 day at (guess) £45.00 p.h. = £360 Total estimate = £945 These are 'new' price guesses, obviously Victoria will be significantly cheaper. No idea what Techspeed will charge, likewise Mike Satur - but would expect them to be cheaper on the labour figures. I would imagine Direct Line will want to have your car repaired at one of thier approved repairers - this is likely to be a non-MGR dealership and is highly unlikely to be one of the little crew of specialists - up to you if you want to kick up a fuss with them Dave - they will probably do a good job (it's not rocket science!) Good luck P.S. If you want to repair it yourself, the SOS site is still around! Plus, i'll give you a hand if you want.

At the moment it looks like Direct Line will be happy to approve the local MGR delaership doing the work. I'm fortunate in that my local dealer is a good one - Priests of Chesham. As long as things stay on this track then I'll just let it flow I'm awaiting the estimate from Priests.
