Well, it would seem like the car is chuffing again and I'm suspecting that the weld between the flange and the exhaust primaries has decided to loose its grip. This isn't really too much of a problem but more of an annoyance. All I will need to do is remove the manifold and weld around each primary. So, the question begs 'how should I do this?'. Should I, once I've removed it, take it to a garage, or take it to a friendly metal fabricating company (if I can find one) or tackle the welding myself (with no previous experience), or obtain help from a fellow knitter?
Does the welding of Stainless steel differ from that of mild steel, is it more difficult?
I know that this would be a golden opportunity to go for a 4-2-1 but if there is a toss-up between 20 quid and 350 which do you think I'm going to plump for...?
Any advice or help would be gratefully received....
Tim

D'oh! Not again!!! Just make sure that the manifold is properly torqued to the head; it is possible that the noise is due to gas escaping past the gasket (happened on my car) Otherwise, yeah, get it welded. Welding SS is apparently harder that on mild, but I have no experience - so it might be better to get it done professionally. BTW can you remind be of Dave the exhaust guy's email addy?

I'll be investigating at the weekend. First port of call, the downpipe/manifold connection, and then a good look around the exhaust manifold flange. Mr Dave 4-2-1 can be found at www.powerspeed.co.uk info@powerspeed.co.uk Tim

Well, I removed the engine cover and couldn't find any leak, I jacked up the car to look at the flexi and the back box but no leak. The engine sounds pretty normal when I first start up but there is a louder exhaust note as the engine get warmer... Buggered if I know what the problem is.... I think it needs more investigation

What to check next?
Curiously, I had an email recently from Ian Hamshaw with a similar sounding problem:
and...
Same thing as you Tim?

Not quite the same but I have considered the back box might be the culprit

For the record i am replacing a Phoenix exhaust on Sunday.
A mate of mine had one supplied and fitted by the MGF Centre in November last year and it has recently started making some 'orrible noises.
Victoria has sent a replacement out and i'm fitting it this weekend. Intrigued to know what has gone wrong, but more importantly, if it does turn out to be the rear silencer then does this mean that there is a question mark over the system? Probably just an isolated incedent.
I'll know more on Sunday.

Could be anything Andy - I guess you'll have more idea when you actually replace the exhaust.
