OK, this is SECRET SQUIRREL stuff people - here's the idea: Single JazBag boot tidy bag - velcros to the side of the boot carpet out of the way. Contains a foam former with spares slotted inside, spare parts come from Victoria at the MGF Centre (i have spoken to her about this) and consist of the usual suspects - i.e. expansion tank cap, rad bleed screw, brake pedal switch etc. Now for the clever bit - i have devised a (draft) manual for installing these (and more) items with photographs and hints and tips as well as a large section at the back, as an appendix containing items like my 'hood tips' info that i created for Paul Lathwell's FAQ site and other stuff. Price will depend on the cost of the parts - i'm not looking at a huge mark up here, just a little pin money if you know what i mean. Afterall, if i'm on a tour and someone's F has a problem, with the kit available i shouldn't need to get involved! List of parts so far: Expansion tank cap Rad fan fuse Rad bleed screw Gear selector cable clip Brake light switch Credit card key (for accessing the boot) Window stops Clear tape for split rear screen Spare (orange) front indicator Spare (orange) side repeater Spare bulb kit (MGF/TF specific) First off: Do you think this is a good idea?and What else do you think should be in the kit?

Oh, one more thing...
I am also thinking of a 'deluxe' version or maybe an 'EU Touring' version using an additional JazBag. This will have items like GB sticker, first aid kit etc and also some more unusual spares like a new throttle cable and some basic tools.

I'm trying to think of parts specifically for the F rather than the more generic things I always carry (spare washer fluid, gaffa tape, WD 40 etc)

Alright, i know we all have spare fuses - but for the sake of a couple of pennies... Credit card key (for accessing the boot) ? please explain These have been around for a while (although i have yet to find a supplier). Basically it is a plastic card, the same size as a credit card, with a fold out plastic key. The idea being that you have the key cut and keep it in your wallet. If you lock your keys in th eboot you should (hopefully!) have a spare key with your credit cards ------------ Rubber hose repair kit (self vulcanising 5 inch long strap of thin rubber, app 1 inch wide) Can be wrapped to coolant hose with small split. *temporary repair* Very good idea. Door Card Plastic rivets (blue)Hmmm, are these the trim clips? I suppose if the window stops need replacing then there is a chance some of these clips will go missing. OK, i agree - another good idea.

Sounds like a great idea Andy. Worth doing a SF 'Touring Pack' to consist of medical kit, warning triangle, bulbs, tyre pressure gauge, windscreen cleaner, GB magnetic 'sticker'?
For the 'E Pack' the only thing I can think to add to the already comprehensive list is a pair (or pairs) of rubber gloves to keep one's hands clean where running water may not be available to wash up when the repairs are complete...

Also, the deluxe one could contain OE brake pads too and maybe a couple of those caliper bolts that Dave broke on the Treffen the other year! I was also thinking about a small can of PlusGas/WD40 etc.

Halfrauds do tiny little sachets of copper grease which could be handy as well. Similar to the small ketchup sachets you get in Burger King etc.
Here's a list of things I carry in the F all the time:
Small can of WD40 Copper grease Latex Gloves Expansive Tool Kit Two bottles of water Bunch of rags Jump leads Small torch Washer fluid Sponge Something similar to a oil filter wrench but smaller (very handy - from Poundstretchers for about £3) Bunch of fuses Lengths of electrical wires Small length of rope (tying up the hood when working in engine bay) Small length of plastic hose (about 30cm long) Funnel

Funnel is also an excellent idea for the kit (and also for me too, at present i don't carry one!) - but i'm not thinking about including any fluids with it. This will jack the price up and i don't want the responsibility of someone adding normal coolant to thier OAT for example (the alcohol in the normal coolant will destroy the organic elements in the OAT completely - HGF!). I assume the length of hose is for brake bleeding? Another good idea (although if i included one i'd need to write up instructions for bleeding the brakes and the AP ones are slightly different to the OE ones so i'd need to do a bit of research - also i'd need to include a jar of some kind too). Rope for hood - hmmm, i prefer to use a length of bungee cord myself, but a cord is a lot more expensive than a short length of 'string' - from a price perspective, the rope/string is much more desirable. Thanks Bob - given me some food for thought.

> I assume the length of hose is for brake bleeding
Could be for that. It has multi roles. I got caught out years ago on a Nissan Micra automatic I had.
It kept stalling at idling speed. Luckily as it was an auto I could keep my foot on the throttle permanently.
Turned out to be a hose coming from the carb. Some kind of vacuum hose perhaps? Very similar to a brake bleed hose. I had a lenght of clear hose in the garage which was a perfect replacement. There are a few hoses on the MGF which are a similar size and I reckon it'll come in handy one day!
Also useful for cyphoniing as well.
Had another thought. A torch may be prohibitively expensive but what about those glow sticks you get? You kind of bend them and they start emitting light. Usually pretty cheap!
