Not sure if this is in the right area, but i couldn't post a new zone on the home page so here it is!
MG World, now defunct (but not for long i hear), contained a number of articles by myself and Rob among others - who owns the copyright on them? Do we relinquish the copyright when we accept payment for the articles or do we, as authors, retain some control over thier destiny?
The reason for asking is that, now that MG World is no longer in print would it be possible to publsh them on the web for others to see/use in future? If so where? Rob's site looks like a good candidate to me as he has similar stuff on there already but if there are copyright issues i wouldn't want Rob to end up carrying the can.
Basically, i have signed no contract, freelance or otherwise with MG World/CHP et al and still have all the text and photos from all of my articles at home on the hard drive where they aren't doing anyone any good - if MG World was till in print i wouldn't be concerned as it would be good business for them - people buying back issues and thus for me - demand for articles in the future. The current status of the magazine means that although back issues are probably still available, no one is buying them because the title is defunct - therefore they are useless and this isn't the reason i wrote them in the first place. I wrote them to help others and maybe inspire a bit (plus a bit of kudos about being in print). The money was nice, but was not my primary motivator (it became imprtant after the accident, but i was writing articles before then).
Maybe if they were edited a bit - i mean they will have to be to suit a web page anyway...
Any thoughts?
