Another source of large discs for the MGF?

Following a recent thread highlighting the similarities between the MGF and Lotus Elise S1 hub (both cars use the SAME 95.25mm PCD!), I thought I'd drop one of the Elise brake specialists a line regarding the possibility of using S1 bell + rotor + calipers on the MGF...

I have a query regarding brake options for my MGF. The MGF shares the Elise S1 PCD of 95.25mm - and I gather that the basic hub dimensions are essentiall the same. My problem - and that of a number of fellow MGF owning friends - is that the standard MGF 240mm discs are inadequate for prolonged track use. Could the rotors/bells that you specify for the Elise S1 be used on the MGF with appropriate calipers? Would you be able to manufacture spacers for Lotus calipers to fit to the MG hub carriers?

I have never looked at the MGF setup but I am interested,Is the front caliper lug,or radial mount?

I have a friend who has one ,and tracks it,I think he uses EBC discs,and likes them.

This is what I wrote in reply:

Hi Stu,

the front and rear calipers are both lug mounted - I may be able to sort out some pictures for you if you need them?

By brake set up at the moment consists of MG Sport and Racing grooved discs (similar in appearance to the EBC grooved discs) with Mintex 1177 pads in the standard sliding Lucas Varity calipers. The fronts seem to cope reasonably well - but I have serious wear issues on the rear pads (last year the pads developed severe taper wear after a track day at Donington). However, track days at circuits like Donington do show up heat related problems such as pad fade... Clearly what I have at present is operating at its limits.

I was considering HiSpec as an alternative, but what I've read regarding their customer service/parts supply has put me off somewhat!

If you're able to put together a disc and bell set up, that'd be terrific

Stu seems pretty keen on the project, although time, as ever, seems very precious. He's after a set of MGF discs. Fortunately, I have a set of scrap discs that I kept (always knew they'd come in handy!!!) - so I may pop over to him to drop them off...
